Equation of State and Phase Diagram of Quartz

Quartz has a complicated phase diagram. One of the very interesting problems having fundamental character is the study of the polymorphous and phase transformations in quartz at high pressures and temperatures realized under dynamic loading. Here we present extended comparison of calculated and experimental data on the equation of state and phase diagram of quartz. The calculated data has been obtained with recently developed multi‐phase equation of state and phase transition kinetics model for quartz. It was shown that the equation of state is in good agreement with the experimental data on static and shock compression of solid and porous quartz including temperature measurements along Hugoniots.
