Prompt positrons are observed at beam momenta of 10, 15 and 24 GeV/c near 90° in the c.m. We find the signal to be largest at the lowest p⊥ measured (0.55 GeV/c), where e+/π−≳1×10−4. For 0.8 GeV/c ≳p ⊥<1.5 GeV/c vector meson decays may be sufficient to account for the positrons observed.
