Garnet films of of (100), (110) and (111) orientations were grown by the LPE technique from fluxes at growth temperatures (TG) between 744 to 884°C. The compositions of the films were between and . The growth component (Ku G) of the induced anisotropy for the (100) oriented films varied from negative to positive as TG decreased. For the (111) and (110) films Ku G was positive and varied slightly with TG. The K u G for the (100) films for a constant TG increased in magnitude with Eu content. The Ku G cannot be explained entirely by the prevalent models. It is postulated that the Ku G has a component dependent upon the Pb content of the film.
