We discuss the application of near‐infrared (NIR) radial velocity (RV) searches for detecting planets around the lowest‐mass stars. We summerize the current methods applied to measure precise radial velocities at the m/s level in the optical, and outline the criteria for extending these methods into the near‐infrared to achieve similar performance at longer wavelengths.
