The paper broadens the frontiers of V. Konoplev’s axiomatic approach to mechanics in order to bring together continuum mechanics with classical mechanics in a new (Newtonian) mechanics. Given are equations of kinematics and dynamics of mechanical systems with time‐varying (mass) densities. They are specified for a mass‐point, a rigid body and an abstract continuum.
New constitutive relations are introduced in conformity with V. Konoplev’s definition of stress and transformation (rate) matrices. For 3‐dimensional continua and 2‐dimensional ones with the same ‘structure’ of constitutive relations, defined are Young and shear moduli and Poisson ratio.
