The thermodynamic and transport properties of a scalar field with a quartic interaction are studied within the optimized perturbation theory (OPT). The phase transition pattern of the model from the broken to the symmetry restored phase is studied. The free energy is evaluated up to first order in the OPT using the imaginary‐time formalism. The pressure, entropy, specific heat and bulk viscosity are computed. The results obtained from the optimization procedure used in conjunction with the OPT method show an upward cusp behaviour at the second‐order phase transition for the bulk viscosity over entropy density ratio.
