A quantum statistical many-userdefs.texparticle theory has been applied to calculate the profiles of hydrogen and hydrogenic ion lines. Whereas the plasma electrons are treated quantum mechanically, for the dynamic ions, the well-known model microfield method has been used. The evaluated line profiles are shifted and asymmetric. Besides the electronic contributions to the line shift, the shift due to the inhomogeneities of the ionic microfield as well as that due to the quadratic Stark effect have been included. Calculating the profiles of hydrogenic ion lines, also fine structure splitting has been taken into account.
