FIG. 5.

Linearly predicted mean effective ITDs at different locations based on maximum (90°) interaural transmission delays as measured using laser vibrometry (Larsen et al., 2006). Shown are predicted values for 1 kHz (solid line), 2 kHz (dashed line), and 4 kHz tones (dotted line). Symbols represent actual ITD thresholds from the current study (open symbols) and those predicted from free field localization thresholds obtained in the Park and Dooling (1991) study (closed symbols), for corresponding frequencies.

Image of FIG. 6.
FIG. 6.

Predicted mean ILDs at different locations for the frequencies tested, computed from the Woodworth/Schlosberg spherical head model (Woodworth and Schlosberg, 1962). Also shown, as larger individual matching symbols, are maximum effective ILDs for 1, 2, and 4 kHz tones based on interaural transmission (Larsen et al., 2006). The range of actual thresholds obtained in the current study for pure tone stimuli are indicated with a bracket on the right for comparison.

TABLE I.

d′ = 1.5 ITD thresholds (μs) for each subject at each stimulus type and the mean, median, and standard deviation (SD) for all subjects. Also shown are IPD equivalents, in degrees.
