Finite difference time domain simulation on near-field optics for granular recording media in hybrid recording
We demonstrate the near-field optics on granular recording media calculated by finite difference time domain (FDTD). Granular media and pattern media are necessary for hybrid recording to achieve a re...

Magnetic behavior of mixture of magnetic ionic liquid [bmim]FeCl4 and water
The magnetic response of the mixture of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrachloroferrate ([bmim]FeCl4) and water was investigated. The [bmim]FeCl4 rich phase in the mixture forming two phases was easily...

Nanodots consisting of Co/Pt multilayer have been fabricated using nanosphere lithography and ion beam etching. The nanodots retained the perpendicular anisotropy as that of the continuous films. However, the coercivity of the nanodots was greatly enhanced, more substantially for smaller nanodots. Concurrently, the remnant magnetization was reduced to 50%–80%. Magnetic force microscopy revealed that the domain pattern of nanodots at the remnant state was largely single domain but with nonperpendicular stray fields on the edges, indicating noncollinear alignment of magnetizations in those regions. ©2007 American Institute of Physics
