Methods for measuring viscoelastic properties of solids are reviewed. The nature of viscoelastic response is first presented. This is followed by a survey of time and frequency-domain considerations as they apply to mechanical measurements. Subresonant, resonant, and wave methods are discussed, with applications. ©2004 American Institute of Physics.
