Although stereochemistry of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) has been discussed sofar in some papers, no common terminology has existed fordescribing left- and right-handed structures of chiral CNTs. Since opticallyactive CNTs have been found experimentally by our group, thestereochemistry of CNTs is required to be reconsidered seriously. Inthis paper, new terminology of $M$ and $P$ is proposedto refer to the handedness of chiral single-walled carbon nanotubesaccording to the IUPAC nomenclature for helical structures. ©2010
