Readership: Particle and nuclear physicists.

Speculations of ancient philosophers about the equivalence of matter and motion belongs nowadays to the category of well established facts. Conversion of the energy of motion into a matter in the form of measurable particles, and the decays of particles into an energy in the form of light is used routinely in particle physics laboratories. These proceedings comprise results of recent experimental and theoretical investigations aiming at the understanding of the mechanism leading to the creation and decay of strongly interacting particles. The main emphasis was put on the studies of the production, decay, interaction and structure of mesons eta, eta-prime and kaons. The investigations are carried out at the cooler synchrotron COSY providing polarized and unpolarized beams of protons and deuterons in the momentum range allowing for the creation of the full spectrum of basic pseudoscalar and vector mesons.
