Accelerated Online Publication for Medical Physics
Beginning with the January 2002 issue of Medical Physics, articles will be available online well in advance of production of the printed version of the journal. These accelerated online articles will be complete and final, with identical content to the versions subsequently published in the printed journal. The articles posted in an accelerated fashion online will contain final bibliographic citation information and are fully citable from the moment they appear online.
In this new ''electronic-first'' publication scenario, Medical Physics articles will be published online as soon as the author-proof corrections have been incorporated. An added feature of this publication method will be access to an ''open'' issue of Medical Physics, which will contain all articles ready for publication prior to compilation of the printed version of the journal. Navigation within the online journal, as well as other online journal functions, will remain largely unchanged; some differences, however, are noteworthy:
- section headings will be prepended to article titles as the open issue builds
- the PDF table of contents for a given issue will not be available until the compilation of the print issue has been completed
