This conference is the VI occurrence of a triennial meeting whose scope is to present the main results in nuclear and condensed matter physics obtained at the Sicilian Universities of Palermo, Messina, and Catania. It is thus not surprising that this volume collects papers dealing with topical problems in many areas of interest both from a fundamental and from an applicative point of view.
