November 2009
The November issue of TLE features a special section on the Rocky Mountain region. Also, our incoming president, Steve Hill, takes a look at SEG’s principles in the President’s Page, while Foundation News showcases the five projects being undertaken by Geoscientists Without Borders.
Next Issue
The December issue will have an extensive special section on reservoir modeling constrained by seismic.

About The Leading Edge
The Leading Edge complements Geophysics SEG’s peer-reviewed publication long unrivalled as the world's most respected vehicle for dissemination of developments in exploration and development geophysics. TLE is a gateway publication, introducing new geophysical theory, instrumentation, and established practices to scientists in a wide range of geoscience disciplines. Most material is presented in a semitechnical manner that minimizes mathematical theory and emphasizes practical applications. TLE also serves as SEG’s publication venue for official society business. (read complete description and topics of coverage)
Call for papers — The Leading Edge May Special Section
The Leading Edge invites papers on the topic of "Characterization of Geophysical Uncertainty" for publication in the May 2010 special section.
For this topic, The Leading Edge invites papers describing sources of and methods to characterize or mitigate geophysical uncertainty, with emphasis on subsurface characterization and business impact. Case studies are encouraged.
Prospect evaluation and field development require accurate characterization of the subsurface. However, a critical element in evaluating risk is accurate characterization of the uncertainty of the subsurface. Geophysical measurements guide our understanding of the subsurface across orders of magnitude of scale, but are inherently non-unique and finite in resolution. Uncertainty in the measurements results from a variety of sources, some of which might include signal-to-noise ratio, data acquisition parameterization, processing algorithms, or trade-off in resolution of the physical properties themselves. An understanding of the range of possible answers drives business decisions that play a prominent role in determining well placement and well count, factors that impact recovery, development scenarios and ultimately project economics.
Interested authors should submit their manuscripts to Guest Editors Jennifer Lewis or Michael Cooper no later than 14 January 2010. In addition, the special section editors would like to receive a provisional title and list of authors as soon as possible.
